The Inadvertent Asshole

Do you have a reputation? What is it, and where did it come from? Is it accurate? What do you think about it?

Four days ago I was looking at porn on the internet when I stumbled across a photo of a woman, sitting on some guys face, who looked exactly like my friend’s wife. I thought, awe man, I gotta call those two. It’s been a long time.

The next day I sent him a text that stated the above, and here’s how the conversation went:

Him: not cool.

Me: What?

Me: What are you talking about?

Him: Grow the fuck up

Me:Hey, didn’t mean to strike a nerve.

Him: don’t be an ass

Me:Cut the insults.

Me:The guy living in the church basement doesn’t get to make insults.

Him: I’m not insulting, I’m just saying how you are. What would possibly lead you to believe it’s ok to talk about my wife that way.

Him: For a guy who claims to use reason and logic you sure don’t seem to have any

Me: When you both lived here she bragged about being offered jobs in the industry, I thought it was a joke, I guess I was wrong

Him: whatever

Me: Sorry, I tried to make you laugh, I pissed u the fuck off, now i know.

That is the sum of my reputation: the inadvertent asshole. I mean well, but the delivery’s shit. It’s not like I told him his wife should make porn; just that someone looked like her. Hell, he could have taken it as a complement!

Everyone I asked said he’s probably going through something, and I hit a nerve, but I feel like I do this to people a lot. It’s a shit rep. because I actually mean well. I think my buddy over-killed it on the anger. What do you think?
