I’ve been thinking about New Year’s resolutions. And for 2015 I want to make women feel less objectified, and I think I have a good idea about how to do that. Many guys will tell a women that something she’s wearing makes her look beautiful, and while it seems like an innocent complement, it’s not. It’s subtle objectification. Women have a higher purpose than looking good. So my resolution is this: when I see a women wearing a nice dress I’m going to complement the object that looks nice instead of objectifying the women. Saying, “nice dress” is much better than, “that dress makes you look good,” or “cool shoes” instead of, “you look hot in those.” It may not sound like much, but if more men did little things to make women feel safe and equal I think the world would be better off.
