I was watching Jimmy Cater on the Daily Show, and I said to my wife, “He has a sharp mind for a guy his age.”
And my wife said, “The assumption that old people don’t have sharp minds is ageist.”
“Holy shit,” I replied, “You’re right.”
I feel bad that I still make these mistakes. That stereotypes still dominate my thought process. But I’m grateful that I can see it–and learn from it.
